Why I do (and love) what I do
The Beginning
Websites today are a far cry from when I started building them back in 2004. Back then YouTube, Facebook, Twitter etc didn't exist. In fact, social media was a mix of two (failing) platforms being MySpace and Friends Reunited (now closed) and not much else. Thinking back, it is strange.
Even seeing photos and videos on websites back then was a rare thing. I had to pay something like £80 a month for a specialised video hosting company just to hold and present my videos. When YouTube came along in 2006, it was a blessing.
This is YouTube 2007...remember this layout? Me neither...
For more than 16 years, I have evolved along with all the incredible changes that have happened online and I have learned so much. I have too much invested in this business to stop now and I feel lucky to absolutely love what I do.
From Coding HTML to WordPress
After 10 years of coding my main photography website with HTML and CSS Styling, I moved to WordPress. I had been watching the evolution of WordPress and in 2015, after a decade of building websites, I felt it was powerful enough for me to make the switch.
That meant a complete overhaul of a very large site. Each page had to be re-written as the platform and pages were moving from .html to the WordPress ecosystem. A huge task. I haven't looked back since and still use WordPress on all my sites today.
Think of WordPress like your Smartphone. The almost infinite plug-ins you can add to your WordPress website are like apps on your phone. However, there is a caveat...not all plug-ins are created equally.
Because many developers are either not in it for the long haul or maybe even a little "devious", you need to use legitimate and trustworthy sources. All plug-ins, templates and hosting companies I use or recommend have:
The Benefits to You
The CMS (content management system) that WordPress uses is pretty simple to operate. Once the site is built and as long as you keep it up to date, the maintenance is very simple.
Couple that with the whole, amazing ecosystem that your website is built around and you will actually want to work on your online business. The tools available make running the online part of your business fun, trackable, exciting and successful.
I can hand over a website to a client (along with a small amount of training) allowing them to run the site successfully from thereon in. Of course, I am happy to do this for you on a monthly basis as part of an ongoing contract if you prefer.
